And, in 2008, a 24-year-old woman was awarded a whopping $10 million after having part of her intestines removed due to inflammatory bowel disease. However, Hoffman La Roche is planning to appeal all judgments claiming that the link between Accutane and inflammatory bowel disease has not yet been proven. Other claims made blame Accutane on causing severe depression and even severe birth defects. However, Hoffman La Roach maintains that they have been warning patients and health care providers against the risk of using the drug during pregnancy.
