BEWARE OF FACE TANNERS

by Corinne

My worst skin story is about a bad experience with a home tanning machine.

I used to be addicted to tanning beds and was a lovely deep brown all year round. One year I was on an extended holiday in Cornwall in England (Ilive in Canada) staying at my father's farm. It can be very sunny there (in those days) during the summer - thus it is known as the Cornish Riviera. I was there, however, over Christmas and following winter months. Not the sunniest time of year, let alone on the top of a windy hilltop close to the Atlantic.

Needless to say my lovely tan was fading fast and I was getting whiter and whiter by the day. I certainly seemed to be losing the glowing and refreshed look I wanted to have to return home to my friends.

To my DELIGHT, a couple of days before I was to return home, I came across an old face tanning machine that my father had purchaased in the early days of their invention - we thought we were so trendy at the time! Of course I took immediate advantage of my discovery and went to work on my face right away!

Twenty minutes later I felt a wonderful glow to my face, just as I did after a tanning bed session, and went to bed with a sense of relief and satisfaction that I would be looking good to go head home.

Yes, I looked HOT, REALLY HOT - the next morning I awoke with a severely burned face and my skin was rapidly turning black. I may just have easily laid back in the kitchen, with my head resting in the oven on a rack and broiling my face!

Instead of a lovely relaxing few days visiting neighbours and casually packing, we sped off to the hospital and I ended up spending several times a day slathering my face in heavy, prescription, cortisone creams! I returned home looking like I had been in a severe accident.

I was ready for another holiday - hidden away in a cave or something.....

I still tan but only when someone else - the salon girls - are watching the clock!

Thanks for reading.

Corinne

Use a good Self Tanner for healthier skin with great color
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I think we should stop tanning and just use self tanners. Tanning has ruined my skin and I'm now spending hundreds of dollars to have all of these spots, bumps, and liver spots off of my arms, legs, and chest.

I hate them! And, while self tanners work well, they only make those liver spots darker....so you have to remove them first - then self tan yourself.

I've tried that wart remover (which contains salicylic acid to remove some spots). It only worked on some of them, but not all. So I'm now going to a dermatologist to get the rest of them removed.

Once these spots are removed, a good self tanner works great and your skin is much more healthier. Plus, I can have a nice glowing tan all year long.

I go to a salon to get the spray tan all over my body a few times a month. Then, in between, I use Fake Bake all over my body to keep it going.

This is much cheaper than going to a salon every week. You see the color comes off really fast on my legs - especially in summer months due to swimming in chlorine and all the extra shaving I do. Shaving removers the dead skin cells and that is what the Fake Bake adheres to.

Oh, yeah, I also use Neova skin spot remover on very sensitive areas like on my face. Yes, I even have those big ugly spots on my face too. But, you have to be careful - because if you have them professional removed, you'll have a red, scab on your face for weeks and weeks.

At least until it heals and falls off. So, I rather use the Neova cream.

Thanks for listening,
Bobbie

Hi Bobbie,

Thanks for sharing that information. I think that is a great idea and I also use Fake Bake too. It's great for all skin tones and never leaves my skin looking dirty or blotchy.

Some of the drug store brand self tanners I've tried make my skin look ........well muddy or dirty. I want a nice color "glow". I'm pretty fair so I have a hard time finding a tanner that works well with my skint tone.

I have not tried the Neova Skincare Cream for Spots, but I do have a video here explaining how it works. It's been endorsed by Dr. Ordon, from the Doctors' Show.

I think I'll give it a try as I have some spots I'd like to remove too.

Thanks again for your input. Great advice - Stay away from tanning booths!
