Eye Makeup for Blue Eyes
(and other colors)
When shopping for eye makeup for blue eyes, many women tend to choose colors that they feel best compliment their eye color.
While this method may be a good rule of thumb, other considerations should be skin tone and, most importantly, hair color. It's amazing how the right color eye shadow can help minimize lines and crinkly skin around the eyes and enhance your skin tone.
The colors that look great on a blue-eyed brunette may not have the same effect on a blue-eyed blonde.
Strange as it may sound, one of the best base colors to enhance and emphasize blue eyes is orange. While most women would find a standard bright orange unacceptable, there are many other shades such as peach, bronze, coral and rust.
Other perennial favorites are the many shades of blue ranging from icy pale to midnight blue, all colors of purple and lavender, and pale pink shades. Dark blue hues in particular can really make blue eyes “pop.”
Makeup For Green Eyes
For women with blue eyes that have hints of hazel or green, turquoise, teals and even some shades of green can provide a great contrast.
And, darker colors can also help reduced hooded eye lids which can make us look older and tired.
Though it would likely be a little dramatic for daytime use, eye makeup for blue eyes can achieve a “smokey eye” look for evening wear with black shades of eye shadow. This really brings out the vibrancy of blue, hazel or even green eyes and gives brown eyes depth and mystery.
Applying shadow for a smokey look simply involves reversing the order in which shadow is applied: the lightest color on the lower eyelid and the darkest one swept from the crease to the brow bone.
Be sure to blend the colors well so that there is no defining line between the colors. Also apply a line of the dark shadow beneath the lower lid lashes, smudging it so that there is no harsh line.
Brown shades ranging from very light beige to dark chocolate compliment women with green eyes extremely well. Pink and purple shades also work well and even lighter green shades can emphasize green eyes.
To achieve a good blend, take three coordinating shades in the same hue, applying the darkest color in the crease, the medium shade on the eyelid and finish it off by brushing the lightest color across the brow bone. For evening wear, try using some colored eyeliner pencil across the lower lid.
Makeup For Brown Eyes
For brown eyes, try using shadows in pink or peach tones as well as blue or even golds and bronzes. Try metallics for extra emphasis. For those with deeper skin tones, plum shades work well in addition to navy blues.
Eyeliner and Mascara: Eye makeup for blue eyes should stick to neutral and brown hues such as taupe, camel, black, and charcoal.
Dark blues and greens also work well. For green eyes, try deep plums, purples, dark or golden browns, charcoal or black, and navy blue.
For women with brown eyes, almost any color will work but any of the differing tones of brown, bronze or black look good or even dark blues such as navy and dark gray. Lastly, don’t be afraid to experiment!
