Homemade Face Wash for Acne

A homemade face wash for acne can help reduce irritation, especially if you're taking acne medication or using topical treatment.

Sometimes they can leave your complexion dried, flaky, or irritated. Using a soothing homemade face wash a few times a week can make a big difference in how you skin looks and feels. Also, it's a good idea to take a break from chemicals and additives.

Note: Before applying any of the recipes listed here, try it on a small area first to see how your complexion will react. Also, don't use any ingredients that you're allergic too.

The Oatmeal Scrub
Here is a great homemade facial cleanser for acne healing. It can help reduce irritation and redness:

  • Mix ½ cup of raw oatmeal (not the instant kind :-)) with 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt to form a paste. Add more oatmeal or yogurt to get the desired consistency.
  • Lightly massage this paste on your face. The oatmeal acts as a mild exfoliator and the natural lactic acid in the yogurt helps to smooth and hydrate.
  • This wash is perfect for dry or oily skin. If you want, you can leave it on for a few minutes for a soothing facial mask.

    The Strawberry Facial
    If your complexion is a little on the oily side, try substituting the oatmeal for strawberries. Strawberries can help brighten a complexion because they contain xylitol.

  • Blend 1-2 chopped strawberries with a few tablespoons of plain yogurt.
  • Try to smash the berries to release their juices and mix well.
  • Lightly massage all over the face, then rinse.

  • The Pineapple Scrub
    If you're looking for a stronger homemade cleanser try a pineapple scrub. Pineapple contains lots of great things for your complexion. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties – so it can really calm irritated skin.

    It also contains bromelain which is a special enzyme that helps dissolve dead cells – so it can help unclog pores. Again, if you have sensitive skin, please test this cleanser in a small area first.

  • Apply 3-4 tablespoons of pure pineapple juice (fresh pineapple juice is best) all over your face.
  • Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, but if you feel any stinging or uncomfortable rinse off sooner.

  • Pineapple is a strong exfoliator so be careful if you have sensitive skin. Some people like to rinse off using a wash cloth to help further remove all the dead cells.

    Try using these homemade facial cleansers once or twice week, in place of your normal wash. Remember not to wash your face too often – once or twice a day is good.

    Over-The –Counter Acne Wash

    If you're interested in trying an over-the-counter acne wash make sure it's clean and free from fragrances. Also, check to see if its pH balance – which is very important for long term skin health.
