Natural Skin Moisturizers - Home Remedy Skin Moisturizer

Are you looking for Natural Skin Moisturizers that are healthy too?

Many moisturizers on the market today contain irritating chemicals and additives.

One of the main reasons we moisturize our skin is to prevent water loss, and to keep it soft, supple and plump.

What we don’t want is to smother it with unnatural greases and waxes, or chemical-laden commercial moisturizers.

Unlike natural skin moisturizers the other ones can cause a variety of skin problems such as breakouts, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, acne, and scarring.

What Is Normal Healthy Skin?

Normal healthy skin has the right balance of moisture and oil (sebaceous glands). The sebaceous glands are attached to the hair follicles.

When these glands secrete sebum oil it travels up the follicle and spreads out onto the skin, keeping it moist and healthy.

Normally, healthy skin also has a layer of natural lipids that helps trap moisture in keeping it soft and smooth.

When that layer is stripped away – whether due to environment, medical conditions, or life style -- your skin is unprotected and quickly dries out – causing dry, itchy or cracked skin.

The purpose of a good moisturizer is to feed and nourish the skin, keeping it soft, plump, and supple and to prevent a dry skin condition from progressing to eczema, psoriasis or worse an infected skin rash.

Natural face moisturizers can make the skin look better and healthier – which is why it’s important to use one especially formulated for your skin type

Natural Skin Moisturizers - Tips for Healthy Skin

In addition to using a good moisturizer for oily skin there are a few tips you can follow for healthy, acne free skin. These tips include avoiding:

Excessive Sun – We all know that too much sun causes wrinkles, skin aging, and increase chances of skin cancer. However, whether it’s outside UV rays or from a tanning bed – too much UV exposure also causes enlarged pores and broken capillaries.

Hot Water - You should never wash your face with hot tap water. The combination of how water and the chlorine found in tap water can damage the skin. The hotter the water, the higher rate of chemical reactions from the chlorine -- which is an oxidative agent used to kill bacteria. This combination may cause more skin damage than most people realize.

Harsh Cleansers - Many cleansers are really ionic detergents that contain lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. These are powerful detergents damage and dry the skin.

Over Cleansing - Many people tend to wash their face often causing skin sensitivity and irritation. You should wash your face in the morning and evening – unless you’ve been exercising, then wash your face again after exercise or sweating.

Harsh skin care products - Many cleansers, makeup, moisturizers designed for oily skin contain really ionic detergents- like lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate and agents used to dry out the skin. These strong additives can damage the skin.

Natural Skin Moisturizers - Masks

If you’re interested in making your own natural skin moisturizers – consider a honey mask. Honey is the basis for this mask as it is a great emollient and humectant.

It softens the skin while exfoliating at the same time. Here are a few different recipes for these great homemade beauty products.

  • Mix 2 tablespoons honey with 2 teaspoons milk. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Honey and Yogurt Mask

  • Yogurt is not only moisturizing, but cleansing to the skin and honey is an exfoliate and moisturizer. Great combination! Plus, the enzymes in the yogurt help to dissolve dead skin cells too.
  • Mix ½ cup of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply the mask to face, neck, décolleté area, and even hands. Allow it to remain on the skin up to 20 minutes and rinse.
