Skin Abrasion

I just "Love" the way my skin looks and feels now. I can't believe how dull it was before!!! Thanks so much for the information. DS

Try a little skin abrasion to reveal fresh new skin.

Definition of Abrasion –

  • Abrasion: An abrasion or "excoriation" is a wearing away of the upper layer of skin as a result of applied friction force. In dentistry an "abrasion" is the wearing away of the tooth substance.

Abrasion bad for teeth – good for skin

Did you know that animals rub sore area of their skin against trees, fences, etc …..in order to speed up the healing process? That’s because skin abrasion helps speed up skin healing/remodeling.

You can use this process to your advantage to help remove old scars, blemishes, and wrinkles.

Skin abrasion is the process of rubbing the skin to speed up the renewal process by loosening old skin cells and rebuild new ones – this works best when using other skin remodeling techniques and products like Copper Peptides and Home Chemical Peels.

Different Abrasion Techniques:

  • Microdermabrasion machines – done by a professional skin care specialist
  • Microdermabrasion cloths like those by DermaGlide
  • Microdermabrasion kits by Neutrogena or Oil of Olay
  • Basically, any manual exfoliation technique – even wash cloths and sponges

Abrasion of the skin can also be accomplished by Needling to break up damaged skin so it can eventually be removed.

How To Incorporate The Abrasion Process

So how do you incorporate this process into your daily skin care regime? If finances allow, schedule for a monthly microdermabraison session with a professional skin care specialist.

At Home Dermabrasion options include microdermabrasion cloths or microdermabrasion kits.

Or try using an inexpensive alternative like a Baking Soda and sugar scrub a few times a week.

Here is a sample schedule --

  • Every day – use a wash cloth or exfoliating sponge
  • Few times a week - I alternate between a baking soda/sugar scrub or needling with the Skin Needling or Home Chemical Peels. It is best to do these at night in case of skin sensitivity. Plus you can apply your favorite moisturizing cream or emu oil and let the skin soak it in overnight.
  • In the morning apply the copper peptides. If your skin is sensitive or you've just started with the peptides, then use them every other morning.

Caution

Since everyone is different and has different levels of skin sensitivity – be careful not to use these techniques on the same day or within about 12 hours of using a facial peel or copper peptides.

These procedures can make your skin sensitive to sun, so always use a good Sun Screen. Even in the winter and cloudy days.
