Skin Exfoliation For Glowing Skin
Baking Soda and Other Homemade Scrubs
Skin Exfoliation helps to loosen and remove dead cells, unclog pores, revive dull, sallow complexion, smooth rough patches, reduce discoloration, and even help stimulate collagen and elastin.
Exfoliating scrubs can help to remove old, dead skin cells that would normally clog sebaceous pores – preventing the even flow of natural oils, which can results in blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.
Did you know that we generate a new layer of skin about every two to four weeks? And as we age our natural exfoliating process slows down -- that's why it's so important to help this natural process along with regular exfoliating treatments.
And without removing dead cells, your skin may not be able to quickly absorb and utilize even the best moisturizers.
Baking Soda Scrubs For Wrinkle Reduction?
While I can't say that baking soda has any specific properties to help get rid of or reduce wrinkles, scrubs in general can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and some small wrinkles.
And some studies suggest that chemical exfoliation (like Retin-A, glycolic acids, and others) does help stimulate collagen production....which can help keep wrinkle formation at bay.
Either way, once you start you'll be addicted to exfoliation - whether it's manual scrubs you make at home or chemical exfoliation products. Actually, using both at different times is a better idea for more clearer, translucent, smooth skin. Baking Soda Scrubs For Oily or Normal Skin
Consider this one of your homemade remedies for wrinkle free skin. You can make this one yourself very quickly by using equal parts of sugar and baking soda, and adding a small amount of water to make a paste.
While this scrub can be used for normal skin, if you have problem with excess oil, consider adding a few drops of lemon juice. If your complexion is very dry, then add some oil like olive oil or emu oil.
This scrub is so quick and simple, I keep a mixture of it in a plastic container in my shower and use it all over my body...feet, knees, elbows, chest, neck....it feels sooo good.
When you finish showering your body will just soak up that moisturizer because the dead cells are gone and the skin is so clean!
Acne Spots and Scarring?
Ok, what if you have damage left over from your acne days...red spots, brown spots and other discoloration from old breakouts? Then, you might want to consider - in addition to a manual scrub - a lightener or a chemical exfoliation to help erase the discoloration and smooth out your complexion.
A potent glycolic peel (30%) that is pH balanced can help slough off dead cells and allow newer cells to the skin's surface. While this type of treatment is inexpensive and can be done at home, it will take several months (or treatments) to really see dramatic results. However, many people do see a fresher, more hydrated complexion after just one treatment.

This facial is also great for aged, or damaged skin since it can help reduce fine lines and fine wrinkles at a deeper level than just a homemade scrub.
For those with acne, please keep in mind that this facial is NOT for active acne. If you suffer from active acne, visit help for acne for more information.
This facial is intense, so make sure to follow the directions exactly. It should only be used a few days on and then you must take a few days off and the let the dermis regenerate.
After a few weeks you’ll really be able to feel the difference and if you should stop using it, you actually feel the build of dead skin cells when you smooth your finger tips over your face.....it just won't feel as smooth.
Other Skin Exfoliation Tips
Anytime you use a scrub or skin exfoliator take advantage of that super clean skin and apply the best moisturizer you have - preferably one without chemicals like lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate because your pores are open and ready to absorb everything it comes in contact with.
Some people like to use creams to exfoliate (especially if they suffer from excess dryness or sensitive skin). Many have received good results with the Green Cream Retinol which is similar to the prescription Retin A Cream, as it's derived from the vitamin A family, but are not as strong.
Green cream retinols come in different strengths, level 3 being the mildest. Click here to read more about the different levels and types of retinols.
I wouldn't advise using this along with the skin lightening facial above. Perhaps you would use this in-between or after you finish the facial treatments. But always use good judgement and try a small area first - especially if you have sensitive skin.
Finally, make sure to always apply a sunscreen because your skin may be more sensitive the UVA/UVB rays while using these exfoliating treatments.
