Aging Complexion with Skin Spots

white spots on skin

Do You Have Red, Brown, or White Skin Spots?

A blotchy complexion with lots of skin spots is one of the classic signs on an aging complexion. Whether you have coffee colored brown spots on the skin (sometimes they're itchy too), or red skin spots, freckles or scars....

Whatever causes them, one thing we all know for sure -- everyone hates them!

What causes them and is there a way to get rid of them? Well, for some people these white, red, or brown spots are due to too much sun bathing and not enough protection. For others is due to a sign of aging. The problem is - once you get them - they're very difficult to eradicate.

The white blotches are generally easier to repair since they mostly show up when a person is sporting a deep tan. These spots usually show up on over exposed areas like the chest and shoulders. Keeping your self covered up with UVA treated clothing and sunscreen can help reduce the appearance and prevent more from occurring.

However, those reddish, brown, coffee colored spots can be more difficult to treat. Even with careful sunscreen and UVA clothing protection, these spots go deep and may require months of treatment and care to reduce their appearance and prevent new ones from cropping up. In fact, by the time you see one, the damage.

IPL laser treatments, liquid nitrogen, chemical peels, and over-the-counter bleaching products can help fade areas or even get rid of of unwanted pigmentation by disrupting the production and distribution of melanin in the skin......

But it all depends on what part of the body needs treatment. The dermis on the face usually responds faster/better than say the thicker dermis of the legs and arms.

There are a variety of ways to accomplish this and studies have shown that the best results occur when using a combination of two or more hyperpigmentation ingredients.

Effective over-the-counter skin lightening products containing Kojic Acid has been shown in studies to be quite effective in long term use. Click here to read more about over-the-counter skin lighteners

What Causes Age Spots?

So what causes those strange white or brown spots? Basically, it's an uneven distribution of melanin. We all have a certain amount of melanin in our skin....Melanin is what gives our skin color. Darker skinned people have more than those who have a fair complexion.

Tanning, hormone imbalances, certain medication, and general aging can cause melanin to clump together -- causing a higher concentration of melanin in some areas than others. This is what causes that uneven skin tone and spots.

Although these types of age spots are usually harmless, your doctor should evaluate them if they change in color or size.

Diagnosing Age Spots

White Spots On The Skin - The most common reason for white spots and skin discoloration is due to a common condition called Vitiligo. This condition affects about 2% of the population. White spots on the skin often appear in small clusters or patches of white roundish rings – this is where skin the lacks melanin – which was destroyed by the vitiligo.

At this time, there is no known cause of white spots on the skin, but it has been linked to hyperthyroidism (over active thyroid gland), pernicious anemia (lack of ability to absorb vitamin B12) and adrenocortical insufficiency (adrenal gland failure).

Brown Spots On The Skin - Some people call these liver spots, but they rarely have anything to do with the liver. Brown skin spots are the most common of all skin spots and are associated with too much sun exposure. When the skin is over exposed to the sun, melanin starts to gather and accumulates in a small area -- causing the dark brown spot to form.

Red Spots On The Skin - Red spots on the skin are usually the after result of acne, eczema, or other skin breakouts. This is more common in those with light skin. These red or - sometimes purple spots on the skin – usually occur after a breakout, when the pimples or eczema rash disappears…..leaving a red or purple spot -- similar to a scar.

Is There Help For Those With Skin Spots?

One way to deal with age spots is to have them lasered off. However, this can be very expensive, has some risks associated with it, and requires a few weeks down-time while your skin heals.

Another option is to help lighten the overall tone of you complexion is with a specific blend of botanicals that are also good for an aging complexion.

A study in the Journal of Dermatology found that arbutin and ellagic acid can help reduce dark skin pigmentation. Grapefruit seen extract has also show promising results for more beautiful skin.

You can find these ingredients here -- Holistic Lightener Cream. The best part is the cream contains antioxidants like vitamin C and E for anti-aging support too.
