Treating Dark Circles

Treating dark circles under the eyes has always been a challenge. Up until recently, there really hasn’t been an effective product for treating dark circles.

The best you could was use a makeup concealer and just cover it up. Dark circles under eye causes us to look tired and ill -- even though we feel fine and had plenty of sleep. It can be very frustrating, especially when people keep asking “are you feeling ok, you look so tired?”

What’s The Cause of Dark Circles?

While dark circles under the eyes have many causes, there are two main reasons.

  • One - The delicate eye area contains many small blood vessels. Sometimes these tiny capillaries leak. Our body compensates for this leak by releasing enzymes which break down the red blood cells and hemoglobin. When hemoglobin is broken down it leaves a dark bluish, black color that shows through the thin skin under and around the eye area.

  • Two- Another cause of dark eye circles really has nothing to do with actual dark circles under eyes, but a protrusion of fat under the eye – better known as puffy bags under the eyes. This is usually a result of general aging or sometimes a medical condition. What happens is the fat bulges out under the eye ball and because the skin is thin and has lost some elasticity due to aging, it creates a shadow which looks like dark under eye circles. For more information read Bags Under The Eyes.

Other Dark Circle Causes include asthma, eczema, or allergies. These all cause a person to rub or scratch that skin under the eye area resulting in darker appearance in the skin. Anemia is another cause where lack of the mineral iron or an iron deficiency results in not enough oxygen getting into the body.

And finally, aging is another common reason for dark eye circles. As we age our skin thins out, becomes more translucent and loses collagen. Dark circles may begin to appear darker in one eye than the other. This is usually due to facial expressions that favor one side of the face more than the other or sometimes an uneven smile.

Eliminating and Treating Dark Circles Under Eyes

When treating dark circles you should try to use non-irritating products. The best remedies for dark circles is a gentle, yet effective cream that contains peptides and stem cells that not only helps to reduce dark circles around the eyes, but also hydrate and smooth the skin and help reduce fine lines.
