Types of retinols or best retinol for under eye dryness

I was told not to use retinols around the eye area. But that is where I have the most problems. I have lots of eye wrinkles and under eye dryness. what do you say?

Hi,

Thanks for your question. In a recent issue of Fitness magazine, a New York plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Guida, M.D. says that despite what you've heard, retinoids can and should be used near the eyes. He says: "apply up to the lower lash line as well as to the sides."

types of retinol and glycolic acid..too much overkill?

by David
(CA)

i'm a male ..getting up in years,, can i use a glycolic acid moisturizer in the a.m. and a retinol cream in the p.m? or is it too much overkill?

Hi David,

Thanks for your email regarding glycolic acid moisturizer and and Retinol creams. From the looks of your picture -- your skin looks very nice!

It's hard to for me to tell you exactly how your skin will react with both creams. It also depends on what types of retinol cream/serum you plan to use.

Certain retinol creams like Retinol Green Cream 3 is very soothing and mild. Retinol Green Cream 9 is a bit stronger, and Retinol Serums are usually better suited for oily prone-acne skin.

You can learn more about the different types of retinols and what type of skin they are best suited for by clicking on the link above.

Another thought....Retinol creams are best suited for sun damaged skin. Glycolic acids are great for exfoliating dead skin cells and to promote skin cell turnover.....which is something that older skin doesn't do very well and is one reason why mature skin looks a bit dull with more noticeable because the dead skin cells settle into the fine lines.

Personally, I like the combination of the two, however I like Latic acid/Glycolic acid combination because it's sort of a weekly home chemical peel and it really hydratrates my skin.

And then I use retinols a few times a month. But it took me a long time to figure out what works best for my skin. And, as I get older, I notice I need to change to skin care regime to meet my skin needs.

I would suggest you first try one..Glycolic if you skin is rough, flaky, or bumpy and see how well your skin looks after about 2-3 weeks. Then, slowly ( a few times a week) try a bit of retinol cream (if your skin is dry or serum if it's oily) and watch for any irritatiion.

And keep in mind you might have to alter this combination when the seasons/weather changes.

I hope this information has helped. If you have any more questions, please don't hesistate to ask.

P.S. One final thought, consider Facial Exercises to keep you skin firm and tight. The effects of facial exercises cannot be accomplished with even the best creams. Click on the link above (facial exercises) for to learn more, watch a video, and try some sample exercises.

What I like about this is that I purchase the DVD once and have a too anti-aging tool for the rest of my life -- without any more purchases. Carolyn, the creator of this short (15 min) effective exercise sends you updates whenever she finds a newer, faster, more effective way to make your face and skin look younger....all without extra charge. Her big project right now is finding a very effective way to target that dreaded "turkey neck" that is SO hard to fix without surgery.

Retinol & Renew intensive skin therapy

by Lili

Is it okay to use a retinol product like Green Cream with the renew intensive skin therapy facial?
------------------------------
Hello,

Thanks for your question. Actually, the Green cream retinol is great for oily skin and reducing pores, improving skin texture, and building collagen.

The renew intensive skin therapy facial is good for increasing cell turnover and reducing skin discoloration.

Actually both help accelerate skin cell turnover time and repair the skin at a cellular level and best of all both stimulate new collagen for thicker, plumper skin.

However, be careful here as both treatments are intense. If you have been using the green cream retinol for a while now and you skin is used to it and you still have scars and blotches, then try a small amount of the facial on one spot first and see how your skin reacts.

If your skin is sensitive or you've never used Green Cream before, start with the .03% first. Read All About Green Cream Level3 Here.

I hope this answer helps,

Retinols or Avene Retrinal

by CR
(USA)

Hi,

What's your opinion of Avene Retrinal. It contains retinaldehyde, which is supposed to be more effacicious than retinol.

Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for your question. Retinaldehyde CT - the main ingredient in Avene Retrinal works similar to Retinols in that both are precursors to Retinoic acid, both are said to increase skin hydration and firmness, and both cause very little skin irritation - unlike it's chemical cousin and prescription cream Retin-A.

In terms of studies, I haven't seen much of a difference between Retinaldehyde and Retinols.

In terms of actual customer feedback, I have not received any about Retinaldehyde -- I think because it's probably still pretty new.

If I come across more information about it, I'll post it here on my blog.

Thanks for your question.

Retinol serums NCN Skincare

by CR USA

Hi Linda,

Your website is terrific! To be able to ask questions and get fast, expert advice is invaluable to me. Now, I'd like your opinion about NCN skincare, particularly their 1% and 2% retinol serums.

Thanks a lot.

Hi There,

Thanks for your question. While I've never tried that brand -- I do like Retinols in general in for my skin.

The one you asked about is a serum and is much stronger than the one I've used. So if your skin is sensitive, if you've never used Retinols before, or if you happen to be out in the sun often -- I'd be careful or start with a lower dose and work your way up.

Or apply it in a small area first to make sure your skin does not become irritated.

And as always, make sure to use a good sunscreen year round.

Best over the counter Retinol cream?

by CDR
(USA)

What is the best OTC retinol cream?

Hello,

Thanks for your email regarding the best over the counter retinol cream. It really depends on your skin type.

Green cream retinol is by far the most popular according to my visitors. But there are different types of retinol creams.

Green cream retinol comes in 3 levels -- 3, 6, and 9.

Level 3 is best for sensitive skin, level 6 is for medium, and level 9 is for skin that's not too sensitive but suffers from deep wrinkles or acne.

What many women do is start with level 3 and eventually work up to level 9. Unless, your skin is not too sensitive -- then you can go right to level 9 for faster results.

If you have oily skin consider trying the retinol based serums. These are really concentrate and only a tiny bit is needed.

For me, the serums were a bit drying.

I think the reason why the Green Cream retinols are the most popular -- because it's like having a serum and moisturizer all in one jar.

I hope this information helped. Click here and scroll down the page to read more about Different Types of Retinol.

Thanks,
Linda
