    At Home Microdermabrasion Machine/Kits

Have You Aged Your Skin This Summer? Rejuvenate it with a personal microdermabrasion machine.

It may be hot outside, but summer is winding down. So what shape is your skin in today? Does it look worn out? Too much sun, chlorine, or salt water? Are your pores clogged from all of that excess sweat and greasy sunscreens?

And what about your skin tone/color? Yes, many of us may be sporting a nice looking tan now - but unfortunately that bronzy color will soon fade. And then all you'll have left are sunspots, age spots, fine lines, and blotchy discolored skin………and for some us – like me – even MORE freckles!

Let’s face it ……….we all know that too much sun is bad for our skin. Photogaging(sun damage)is probably the number one cause of wrinkles and skin aging. How many of you started this summer with a vow to stay out of the sun and use a good sunscreen?

I make that promise every year…..and low and behold, by mid to late August, I have a tan! This means I probably incurred some skin damage. But I love summer and love the sun……..and sometimes, I’m just having too much fun to remember to cover up.

Well, fortunately there is a solution for worn out summer skin……. microdermabrasion facial.

No, I’m not talking about over-the-counter gritty creams that polish your skin. They’re great, but can never deliver the results you get with a professional microdermabrasion session. The problem is the professional ones cost about $200.00 per session……but oh did my skin look nice!!

So I decide to investigate some of the home microdermabrasion kits. I started with microdermabrasion cloths, creams, and finally settled on a little personal microdermabrasion machine that really packs a punch. It’s similar to the professional machines – but it’s smaller.

The Personal Microderm System is a small hand held machine that uses real aluminum oxide crystals to buff away dead skin cells, clean out the pores and reduce the appearance of sun spots and fine crinkly lines…especially in the crows feet area.

What makes it so personal is that you can tailor it to your skin needs. For example, it comes with different aluminum crystal discs - sensitive, medium, and course. The course discs are great to use on body parts like hands, elbows, and feet. And the medium and sensitive ones are best used on your face.

And, the discs also come in different sizes – larger ones for your face and body and smaller ones for those hard to reach areas around the nose…….. It really gets all of that “gunk” out of those tiny pores on the sides of the nose!

But, I must warn you – be careful and don’t be fooled by the size of this machine.....it is powerful! I was in a hurry to get rid of a brown spot on my cheek and was a little too aggressive and held it too long in that one area. As a result, I had a little red sore spot on my cheek.

It healed up quickly - in a day or two – but I was really surprised. Truthfully, I didn’t think this little machine was so powerful! It comes with an instructional DVD – so I highly suggest you watch the video before using it.

My only real complaint is that the machine is a little loud. You really notice this when using it on the face. It has a sort of high pitched loud nose - but it doesn’t take long to finish the face. One or two passes over the entire area and you’re finished.

After each session, your skin feels incredibly smooth and clean. It has nice healthy glow due to the increased circulation. In the short time that I’ve used it, it has started to evened out my skin tone and lightened up some of my brown spots.

So far, I’m thrilled with the results and am looking forward to even better results as time goes by.

For a fair comparison – I wanted to make sure the pictures were taken in the same lighting….so I had them taken in the same room and same time of day.

    Apple Honey Mask

Awaken tired skin with an apple/honey facial. This perfect combination of mashed apples and honey is a great way to remove dead skin cells, clean the pores, and hydrate parched dull summer skin.

Apples contain fruit acids which can gently exfoliate the skin and clear the pores and honey is a natural humectant – which means it naturally absorbs moisture from the air and pulls it into the skin…….keeping the skin moist and hydrate, but not greasy. Big difference!

    Ok, here is the recipe:

    • In a small amount of water boil or microwave ½ an apple peeled.
    • Add one-two teaspoons of honey
    • Mash the apple then add honey and mix well. Massage all over the face, neck, chest, and tops of your hands if you have enough left over.
    • Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse off well.

For extra oily skin you can add one teaspoon of ground oatmeal. Oatmeal is great for itchy or oily skin.

Featured Product - - Retin A Alternatives For Sun Damaged Skin

Since this month’s newsletter is dedicated to worn out summer skin, it’s only fitting that we discuss the benefits of Retinol creams (a chemical cousin to Retin-A).

I'm sure many people are familiar with the popular anti-wrinkle prescription cream called Retin-A.

Retin-A works great for reversing signs of skin aging, especially sun damaged skin and acne. The problem is, it’s expensive, requires a doctor’s visit, and the side effects are hard to tolerate. Most people never finish treatment due to nasty side effects.

You see Retin-A is a very powerful exfoliator and works almost like a mild chemical peel. Redness, dry flaky skin, itching, and peeling are the most common complaints.

If you can tolerate that and get through the initial treatment period – the side effects go away and your skin will begin to improve.

However, there is a more gentle over-the-counter alternative – Retinol cream. Retinols are derived from a vitamin A molecule – like prescription Retin-A – but it not as intense and does not cause the harsh side effects as its prescription cousin.

Plus, you can choose from different strengths of retinol creams. Green Cream Level 9 is the strongest and best for deep wrinkles, while Green Cream Retinol Level 3 contains the lowest amount of retinol and is best for sensitive skin. Retinols are also great for clogged or enlarged pores.

Until next month.......keep exercising your mind, body, and face. Stay healthy and strong.

    Linda
