What Is Retinol - Facial Skin Tips for Smoother Skin

Spring is here and it’s time to get your skin ready for summer. Time to exfoliate and get rid of those pore clogging dead skin cells and uncover a fresh new look.

Back in the early 80s Retin A was all the rage for encouraging skin cell turn over and reducing wrinkles. I believe one of the first celebrities to start using Retin A was Cher.

Soon, everyone was running to their doctor or dermatologist - including me - asking for a prescription for Retin-A. However, those nasty side effects were hard to deal with……redness, peeling, sensitivity to sunlight…… Bad enough to make me quit!

Then I found Retinol. Retinol is derived from a vitamin A molecule and is then broken down into hundreds of smaller compounds called tretinoin. Retinol belongs to a group of chemical components called retinoids -- and is one of the few components small enough penetrate the skin and get deep into the layers so it can work on collagen and elastin repair without the irritation that Retin-A users commonly experience.

Once fully absorbed into skin Retinol can begin to repair wrinkles, fine lines, increase moisture and elasticity. The result is softer, smooth, glowing skin….making Retinol a truly effective anti-wrinkle cream.

Another reason why retinols work so well is because our skin cells have receptor sites to accept rentioic acid, which is why in the past, Retin-A was the favorite for anti aging prevention. But the problem – it was too irritating for even the most tolerant skin…… I know I couldn’t tolerate it and my skin is not that sensitive.

However, thanks to recent technology, more stable forms of retinols have be discovered -- allowing for better skin cell communication, better penetration and better free radical protection – because of its antioxidant capabilities. This helps not only in terms of skin aging, but to create strong, healthy skin for life.

The best part is, there are different types of Retinol products that can be used by a variety of skin types: dry, oil, wrinkled, blotchy (sun spots), large pores, and even acne prone skin. That’s because retinols come in thick hydrating creams for dry / wrinkled skin and light oil absorbing serums for oily or acne prone skin.

One of the most popular retinols for aged, wrinkled, acne, scared, hyper-pigmented, and sun damaged skin is the Green Cream Retinol 0.3%. This pure retinol helps to exfoliation dull skin cells – so skin looks instantly better. And with long term use it helps repairs cellular structure damage gradually in the epidermal cells as well as in the dermal collagen and small blood vessels.

It will also help shrink oil glands, which reduce pore size, and diminish scars. The resulting effect is new collagen growth and thicker, plumper skin. Most people experience these results in a few months.

Click here Types of Retinol to view other types of Retinols - like highly concentrated serums for treating stubborn areas, retinol based eye creams for crow’s feet, and super strong retinol acne treatments to not only help reduce acne and wrinkles, but keep pores clear.

Want another anti-aging tip? Use the Retinols along with the Healthy Mineral Makeup Stick. This super easy, fool proof mineral makeup is simple to apply and is healthy for aging skin.

Adult Acne Treatment - Beauty Secrets

Researchers are not sure why, but adult acne seems to be on the rise. Almost 50% of women over age 30 suffer from acne. And research shows that the symptoms of acne last longer in adults – often times well into their late forties. Because skin at this age is more sensitive, contains less oil glands, and is prone to lines and wrinkles – treating acne is especially difficult.

That’s why for years as a health advisor, I’ve been recommending that adults with acne should use a simple 3 pronged approach that also address what’s going on inside the body with healing Chinese herbs. Here are those simple 3 steps:

    • A gentle organic/herbal wash to clean the pores with over drying and accentuating lines and wrinkles
    • A simple salicylic acid gel only to spot treat blemishes, not all over the face
    • And attack the whole problem from the inside with a Chinese herbal supplement that cleanses the live, hormones, and whole endocrine system.

This is one of the most effective ways to treat aging, acne prone skin without harsh chemicals that can over dry the skin – leading to more wrinkles. Click here to read about my favorite Acne herbal Remedies for adult aging skin.

    Self Tanners - Fake Tans

We all know what a wonderful bronzing glow can do for our skin. And now that spring is here many of us will be tempted to sunbathe – if even for a few minutes just to get that glow. Plus, a little bronzing color on our face can hide a world of imperfections like freckles, sun spots, age spots, redness, blotches, and other imperfections.

I tend freckle since I’m Irish, so I’ve been using self tanners for years to help even out my skin tone. Plus, I don’t have to rely on face heavy makeup when I have a nice tan….

The problem is finding a self tanner that works for every skin type and skin color was difficult and I spent a ton of money searching for the right product. Also, many self tanners are damaging to the skin – not as bad as the UV rays you would get from sun tanning, but they contain harsh chemicals that dry out and over long term, can damage the skin.

In addition, many contain parabens and other preservatives. Some can clog pores too. Others are too harsh for very fair sensitive skin.

After much research and trial and error, I’ve finally found a self tanner that contains botanical extracts, is perfect for sensitive skin, and seems to develop the right color whether you have red, yellow, or blue based under tones. In addition, it comes with a money back guarantee that you’ll develop a nice, rich looking tan….or your money back. Where was this product when I spent a fortune on useless tanning creams and sprays that looked like an orange mask on face???

This product is so good, it’s even the favorite choice for celebrities like Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Ripa, and Britney Spears....but it's very inexpensive!
