Please explain what ceramide is, what it does for your skin, and which products contain this ingredient. Also, is this an ingredient in Matrixyl 3000?
Thanks, CR
Hi CR,
Ceramide and Matrixyl™ 3000 are two different ingredients often found in anti-aging creams.
Cermaides are lipids and are naturally found cell membranes. Cermaides can act as a barrier to help maintain skin moisture and help protect the skin.
A lot of skin care manufactures add ceramides (sometimes extracted from soya lecthin) to their line to help increase skin hydration.
It is suggested that as we age, we have lower concentrations of cermaides in our skin which may explain why older skin is drier and rougher.
Matrixyl™ 3000 is an ingredient also found in many cosmetics. It consists of two different peptides -- called matrikines. These peptides help promote skin healing and regeneration. Studies show these peptides can help increase collagen production.
There is another Matrixyl® on the market that is different from Matrixyl™ 3000.
This Matrixyl is a trade mark name for palmitoyl pentapeptide-3, which also helps would healing and stimulate collagen too. But clinical studies show that it was proven to be a more powerful peptide for increasing collagen synthesis.
