The Benefits of Vitamins For Healthy Skin

Skin vitamins play an important role in skin health and aging -- a fact that has been confirmed many times over in health and medical journals.

But many people are confused as to what constitutes a good skin vitamin. As a Health Advisor people would often ask me "what vitamins do I need for great skin?"

Well, there are several important skin vitamins....

Water soluble vitamins such as vitamin C and minerals such as zinc and copper, are powerful antioxidants that can have a huge impact on the way your skin looks and how well it ages.

Did you know that certain vitamins can protect collagen and elastin against free radical damage?

One of the benefits of vitamins are the protection against Free radicals -- which are nasty by-products of our environment and can destroy collagen and elastin -- causing wrinkles to form faster.

Or, did you know that you can use the mineral Zinc For Acne?

Some research shows that zinc might be helpful in controlling -- and in some case -- clearing up acne In fact, some experts believe that acne is a symptom of a zinc deficiency.

How Many Diets Have You Been On?

Eating the right foods for great skin, like the ones out-lined in the Healthy and Clear Skin Diet along with the and the important vitamins mentioned on this site -- can help keep your skin looking younger longer.

Did you know that every time you go on a diet, you not only lose weight, you also lose important vitamins for skin and good health?

Your overall health is reflected in the condition of your skin.

Everything from acne and rosacea, to psoriasis and premature aging is an indication of what’s going on inside the body.

Are You Taking Diet Drugs That May Interfere With Important Skin Vitamins?

Recently, it has come to my attention that the use of the dieting drug Alli, is widely used by many people, especially since it is now available over-the-counter.

What many people may not know is how this drug can affect the condition and health of their skin – and health in general.

Alli is a fat blocker that was recently approved for over-the-counter use. Using Alli blocks the absorption of those all essential fatty acids that helps keep your skin moist and supply.

Here Is How It Works

Alli works by absorbing a certain amount of fat found in foods like milk, cheese, salad dressings, fish and meat. It binds with those fats so they can't be digested and carries them out of the body.

However, the problem is it also blocks essential fats that we need, for not only healthy skin, but overall health in general.

These essential fats include omega-3 fatty acids, which is great for the skin and can be obtained by eating oily fish like salmon or taking fish oil supplements – along with important fat soluble vitamins A, D and E.

These vitamins are essential as an antioxidant, strengthens and protects the skin, is important for the life cycle of skin cells, and helps prevent acne and dry scaly skin.

They are also extremely essential to general health. Did you know that vitamin D deficiency is widespread in the United States?

Vitamin D deficiency is linked to a series of diseases including depression, diabetes, gum disease, osteoporosis, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.

What To Do

If your dieting and/or taking drugs like Alli to help you lose weight, it important that you supplement with a good multi-vitamin daily. However, make sure your multi contains an ample amount of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, and E).

For example, it should contain at least 5,000 IU of vitamin A (including mixed carotenoids), 400 -800 IU of vitamin D and no less than 400 IU of vitamin E.

And make sure not to take these vitamins when you take Alli – Space them out a few hours before or after taking Alli.
