Thanks for your question. If you have oil skin you must be careful to keep the pores clean and unclogged because as oil builds up through the pores and hits the air, it oxidizes and turns black...This is how blackheads are formed and they are VERY hard to get rid of once they start forming.

The biggest mistake people with oily skin make is to use harsh products. That only causes the skin to dry out....causing the body to want to produce even MORE oil and further increasing oil production. So you need to use a gentle cleanser and a special moisturizer specifically made for oil skin.

And, finally, use a good oil controlling moisturizer that actually helps control oil production while keeping the skin moist (not greasy).

Blackheads and oily skin :(

I have lots of blackheads on my forehead, chin, neck, and some on my cheek near my ear.

I have had spots since I was 11 I think but loads (Like all the ones on my neck) appeared last year november or something.

It got really bad and I got loads of pimples as well. I've used lots of things face washes, creams, masks, scrubs but none have worked currently im using some cream containing lots of benzyl peroxide I got from the counter at the pharmacist.

However when I went on holiday to Dubai over the summer I noticed I had lots of pimples for a while then the pimples and blackheads all went?? I live in London, UK and am 13 :)
If I could figure why my skin changed when I went to Dubai I think I could figure how to mange my skin here? Any help and tips, like diet and stuff as well? :)

Sounds like the warm sunny weather agrees with your skin. Or you're having a rebound effect from the benzol peroxide. A "Rebound" effect is when you use a product that is very harsh - it clears up your acne for a while - then the skin begins to over-react by producing even more oil and your situation comes back...sometimes even worse than before.

There is a theory among skin care enthusiasts that over scrubbing, over drying, and over washing - will only cause the body to produce even more oil and blackheads. And benzoyl peroxide is very drying - which could be making your skin worse.

Did you know that a blackhead is made up of hardened, oxidized (meaning it was exposed to the air) oil?

So you have to calm the skin down and slow the excess oil, then you'll have a better chance of clearing up the blackheads and pimples.

Have tried the Zenmed Acne products?

Zenmed has an excellent reputation for formulating really gentle, organic, and pH balanced acne wash, acne gel, and clay mask....which is an excellent spot treatment once you get your skin under control.

If you do decide to try it get the one formulated for oily skin...because they make 4 different acne treatments - one for dry skin, mature skin, combination skin, and oily skin. This is probably why their products are successful because not all acne is the same.

Finding a product that works for your specific skin type is the key. And, in your case, using products that won't over irritate is essential.

Whatever you do or use, don't scrub your skin, wash too often, or use very hot or cold water.

The first tip to control oily skin is to increase Coenzyme-A. Research shows that people with oily skin tend to have lower levels of Coenzyme-A.

Coenzyme-A is needed to help breaking down fats in the body, thus leaving less to be deposited onto the skin.

Start out with 1-2 grams a day and give it a month and see how that works for you. Some people may need more, but that is something you'll need to find out as everyone is different.

How To Control Oily Face for Men & Heal Acne

My face is totally oily,I don't use any make up.Two years onwards my face getting Pimples (White) and Black spots. What should i do?

Hello Rekha,

Thank you for your email. First use a gentle face wash that is pH balanced. This is a must.

Over washing/drying your skin -as many people with oily skin try to do - will only make it worse. Also, a few times a week add a little bit of baking soda to your facial cleanser and make a paste and scrub your whole face.

In addition, try a weekly organic clay mask to help pull out impurities, clog pores, and reduce acne causing bacteria. As long as your body overproduces oil and bacteria, your acne will not heal.

Finally, consider taking 20-40 mgs of Zinc Monomethionine for acne which provides 7.5 mgs of elemental zinc. This is very important for reducing acne. Studies show that most people who suffer from acne are also low in the mineral zinc.

Thanks for your email. The first thing is to stop using harsh cleansers. A pH balanced gentle cleanser can help reduce excess oil production. I found a great herbal cleanser by ZenMed that can help unclog pores and reduce oily production.

Also, ZenMed makes a great sebum regulating moisturizer which can hydrate your skin, and yet control the excess oil production. It's a very unusual product!
