Steroid cream for eczema treatment

by Ann
(Mo)

Hello, I have thin skin from years of topical steroids on my face due to eczema.

Does the skin thin out just where the steroid was applied or does it thin skin everywhere?

Thanks and I appreciate your website it has been so helpful.

Thanks for your email Ann. I'm glad you find this website helpful! :-)

It's so unfortunate that topical steroids provide relief from skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, but cause such strong side effects like thinning of the skin.

Topical steroids help because they decrease the rate at which the skin cells grow. This also reduces inflammation and itching.

Topical steroids usually cause thinning of the skin in the area it is applied. One way to help reduce the side effect is to take a break (1 week off) after 2 straight weeks of application.

Alternating between this on/off application therapy can help reduce some of the more serious side effects.

But, make sure you check with your doctor before stopping therapy....

Which foods cause Eczema?

I have itchy eczema rash and dry flaky skin. Can you tell me if there foods that cause this?

Thanks for your email regarding eczema. For some people skin disorders like rashes can be caused by allergies to either foods or something the skin comes in contact with - likes creams, soaps, or laundry detergent.

Most common types of foods that can cause symptoms are:
wheat gluten, seafood, nuts, eggs, or soy. Also casein from mik protein. For some people it can be a case of yeast overgrowth.

I now this may seem like a tough thing to do - but examine the common food list above and determine which ones you tend to eat most often...perhaps even crave. Believe it or not - the food you crave the most can be that you're most allergic too.

Then slowly try to eliminate one at a time - say for about a week or two and see if there is any change to your skin.

If no change, then eliminate the next food item for another week or two. Continue this until you've determined which food/s could be causing your skin condition.

Also, consider taking fish oil and probiotics. Studies show that these two nutrients may help improve eczema skin symptoms by improving immune and digestive systems.

Finally, make sure the creams, lotions, or soaps you use on your body is designed for sensitive, dry, or itchy skin.

They should not contain a lot of chemicals that can only exaggerate skin problems.

Eczema

by Eczema Sufferer

I have had contact dermititis(or eczema) around my eyes, in my ears for about five years and I have used topical steroids on my face the whole time without knowing the side effects.

I have thin skin on my face and brown spots. I stopped using the steroids one month ago and the eczema has not went away since.

I am now trying mimyx cream for a non steroidal approach. Also with your advice I have started using Biosil to try and reverse damage to skin. The skin under my eyes is saggy and makes me look 40 something when I am 30.

Please help me with advice for suppressing the eczema and damage under eyes. Thank You!!!

Hello,

Thanks for you email. Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the eczema problem...especially around the eyes! That is such a sensitive area even for those with healthy skin. And that area always ages first.....to have eczema there too is tough! Yes, those steroids - as helpful as they are - are so damaging to the skin.

Steroids will weaken and thin the skin out over time. Using BioSil is a great idea and keep in mind that it will take time to see the reversing of skin damage.

But you will notice that your hair and nails will be growing faster.....so that's a sign that it's working. Give it a few months...you'll see what I mean.

The only problem is - now I have to pay more money to get my hair cut more often :-)

I have a suggestions for you. The Continue reading here.......

One of the reasons why this product has been so successful is due to it's gentle ingredients. It's been formulated for small children and adults with hypersensitive skin.

I would think this is perfect for delicate ares the skin around your eyes. However, this is for people who have been diagnosed with the eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis skin condition.

I hope this information has been helpful. Keep using the BioSil no matter which cream or eczema product you decide to try. The BioSil can help reverse the damage from the steroids.

Thanks,

How to treat nummular eczema

Hi,

I need information on treating nummular eczema. Thanks

Thanks for your question about treating eczema. Eczema is a tough skin condition to treat. Most typical treatments involve the use of topical steroid creams which has so many unpleasant side effects.

You might be interested in a natural skin care formula that was designed by naturopathic doctors for ultra sensitive skin.

I like it because - unlike many eczema products - it's free of fragrances and chemical additives, which often irritates sensitive eczema skin even more.

Also, consider taking Fish Oil.

Recent studies found that high doses of DHA (5.5 grams) significantly improved symptoms of atopic eczema after only 8 weeks.

I like this particular brand of fish oil because it purified and tested for toxins, mercury, and other pesticides.

Hope this helps,

Eczema Skin Symptoms

Please help me cure my eczema skin symptoms!!

Hi,

Thanks for your email on how to treat eczema. One of the most difficult skin conditions to treat is eczema & dermatitis.

Typical treatments involve the use of topical steroid creams which are so harsh to the skin and have many unpleasant side effects - like thinning out of the skin over long term use.

I've been recommending a natural skin care formula that was designed by naturopathic doctors for ultra sensitive skin. It's even safe to use on babies and children.

I think the reason why this product has worked very well for many of my eczema suffer visitors is because it address some of the most annoying symptoms of eczema dermatitis like: hot itchy skin that can sometimes crack open and become raw and start to bleed...

This is probably the worst of eczema flare-up symptoms. Click here to read more about

fish oil and eczema

Do you have any information on the use of fish oil for eczema treatment? Do I apply it onto the skin?

Thanks,
Steve
-------------

Hi Steve,

Taking fish oil supplements (internally) has been scientifically proven to help reduce and heal eczema symptoms.

The most impressive study found that high doses of fish oil (5.5 grams of DHA) significantly improved symptoms of atopic eczema after only 8 weeks.

In another great double-blind study, when 1.8 grams of EPA was feed to a group of eczema suffers for 12 weeks they all reported significant improvement in symptoms.

Researchers believe that large doses of fish oil may help relieve symptoms because it plays an important role in reducing inflammation.

However, one word of caution. When you take that much fish oil, make sure it's pure and distilled so it doesn't contain mercury and toxins. I only use Life Extension's Fish Oil Supplements.

Hope this helps,
